Since 1915 Torquay Grammar School for Girls has combined academic excellence with a friendly and caring atmosphere in which girls become self assured and successful young women.  We believe that being a single sex school enables us to focus on the styles of learning and the social environment in which girls feel most confident. Our vision is to provide an environment where girls can fulfil their academic potential, develop personally, and contribute positively to society.

Ofsted inspectors visited us last Autumn to examine all aspects of the school. They agreed with our judgement that we are a ‘good school with many outstanding characteristics’ and they were effusive about our girls. We received outstanding grades for; standards, personal development and well being, behaviour, curriculum and partnerships.

This is a place where bright girls can grow, flourish, and reach their considerable potential. We are proud of our pastoral system where, as a smaller school, all students are known and staff can respond quickly and efficiently to ensure that girls feel happy and secure.

As a Humanities Specialist School we have been able to involve the girls in multiple opportunities enabling them to understand the world in which they live. We place great value on extra curricular activities and consequently, this year a large number of girls were involved in trips to various locations across Europe, North America, Africa and Asia.

We are at an exciting phase in the development of our school environment and several modern buildings have been added over the last few years. A state of the art Drama and Music block and a new Sixth Form building have opened last year. We aspire to provide the best learning environment possible.

We believe that this is a very special and unique place in which to learn. Students at TGSG can achieve anything they desire- the opportunities are here for the taking. The best advert for the education provided at TGGS is the girls themselves who are delightful, articulate and intelligent individuals.
