South Wilts opened in 1927 with 207 girls. Since then it has been providing high quality grammar school education for the girls of Salisbury and the surrounding area. Today the school has grown to over 1000 including a large sixth form of 376 students, in collaboration with Bishop Wordsworth's School.

Academic achievement at South Wilts is excellent with outstanding examination results at all key stages. Teaching is of an exceptionally high calibre with a wide range of teaching and learning activities so that students enjoy their lessons and respond positively. Extra-curricular opportunities are both wide ranging and of an exceptional standard with Ofsted describing Music as 'the jewel in our crown'.

We have been awarded the International School Award and have links with an Indian school, a Chinese school as well as schools in France and Germany. We are also a Healthy School with a strong Eco focus, demonstrated by achieving the Green Flag award.

The Ofsted inspection in October 2007 summarises the best aspects of the school. 'This is an outstanding school in all respects. It is held in high regard by the vast majority of its students and their parents and rightly so. 'Second best' is not the lexicon of this school, where excellence pervades all aspects of its work. The school brings the best out of these able girls, who enjoy their learning in this challenging and supportive environment.'

This is a forward thinking school which has benefited from a number of building programmes in recent years providing first class facilities including outstanding ICT provision. The school's focus is always on teaching and learning and staff work hard to ensure that all students fulfil their potential in a supportive and friendly atmosphere.
