Plymouth High School for Girls

St Lawrence Road

Plymouth High School was founded in 1874 and therefore builds on a long tradition of excellence. Our motto "For Life Not School We Learn" is still relevant today and at the heart of what drives us forward. In years 7 to 11 we have 600 girls on roll. Our sixth form is open to both girls and boys and has grown in numbers to 230. It is our duty and responsibility to support every one of our students to achieve the highest standards academically and, whatever their unique gifts, talents and needs, develop excellence in areas of their choice. It is a very special place. The school has a family atmosphere that provides a sense of warmth and welcome within a safe, stimulating environment.

We are a Technology College and this has had a major impact on the way we work. Many extra-curricular activities such as our Greenpower Formula 24 Electric Car are linked to our specialism. Languages and Internationalism are also strengths of the school and we are committed to international activities across the curriculum. We have developed strong partnerships with schools in Europe, China and, in particular with Ahantaman Girls Secondary School in Sekondi-Takoradi, Ghana.

Our last Ofsted inspection praised Plymouth High School as being a good and improving school which enables students to achieve well and to develop into confident, articulate and thoughtful young adults.
